Pharmacy Practice Update: Proposed Amendments

Recently, amendments to Sections 29.2, 29.7 and 63.6 of Title VIII NYCRR have been proposed reflecting changes in the practice and unprofessional conduct in pharmacy. If approved these proposals would:

  • Allow the electronic transmission of patient data
  • Increase the duties of unlicensed personnel in a pharmacy
  • Allow the transfer of prescription data between pharmacies.

Pharmacists are advised to see Volume 6, #3 for the final rule regarding these and other changes to Education Law which impacts pharmacy practice in NYS.

Hypodermic Needles and Syringes

This is the second in a series of six self-study CE articles that will appear in Pharmacy Law in 1999. Upon completion of this lesson, pharmacists in NYS should be able to:

  • Identify the written prescription requirements for needles and syringes
  • List the record-keeping requirements for dispensing needles and syringes
  • Document the label requirements
  • Identify the rules regarding emergency oral prescriptions for needles and syringes.

What's New

Legislative bills (and numbers) of interest are listed that are currently in the NYS Senate and Assembly.
